Nadan Beef Curry Kerala Style 

This is based on this recipe we found here, but adapted for the pressure cooker. It tasted amazing and was really simple to cook. We used fransyska since it was on sale.

 Ingredients

  •  2 tbs coconut oil
  • Tempering spices:
    • 1 tsp black mustard seeds
    • 1 tsp fennel seeds
    • curry leaves
  • 2 red onions – sliced
  • Cooking spices 
    • 1 tsp salt
    • 2 green chillies – chopped and optional if kids.
    • ginger garlic paste
    • 1 tsp turmeric
    • 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
    • 2 tsp Kashmiri chilli powder or paprika for a kid friendly version
    • 2 tsp ground coriander
    • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tbs tamarind paste or lime and brown sugar
  • 1 kg chuck steak or stewing beef cut into large chunks
  • 1 400g tin of chopped tomatoes or 3 large ripe tomatoes chopped
  • A bit of water so the pressure cooker feels safe

Instructions

  1. Add the coconut oil to the pan.
  2. When hot, add mustard seed, fennel seed and curry patta.
  3. When the seeds start to pop and the diced onion and salt. Cook until soft.
  4. Add cooking spices and cook it until the ginger garlic smells right.
  5. Add the meat, cook for some surface.
  6. Add tomatoes and just enough water.
  7. Cook on high for 40 minutes.
  8. Cook it down a bit at the end.
